Car Shipping Cheatsheet. How to make sure you're never liable for issues from your car's transport.
Shipping your car doesn't have to be stressful. By following these simple steps, you can ensure you're never held liable for issues that arise during transport. As the oldest and best car shipping broker, we've never had a theft or customer loss when these instructions were followed.
Step 1: Always Take Photos and Videos
At Pickup: Take comprehensive photos and videos of your vehicle from all angles before the driver loads it onto the carrier. Document any existing scratches, dents, or damage. Take close-up shots of all four sides, the roof, wheels, and interior if possible.
At Dropoff: Before signing anything, take the same comprehensive photos and videos. Compare them to your pickup documentation. This visual evidence is crucial if any issues arise.
Step 2: Never Sign for Delivery Until You Verify Your Car is Fine
This is critical. Do not sign the bill of lading or any delivery documents until you have thoroughly inspected your vehicle. Take your time. Walk around the entire vehicle. Check for any new damage, scratches, or issues. Only sign after you're completely satisfied that your vehicle arrived in the same condition it was picked up.
Step 3: Report Issues to Us Immediately
If you notice any problems, damage, or discrepancies, contact us immediately. Don't wait. The sooner we know about an issue, the better we can help resolve it. We're here to support you every step of the way.
Step 4: We'll Support You Through the Entire Process
When you report an issue, we don't leave you to handle it alone. We will:
- Support you in negotiating with the trucker: We'll work directly with the carrier to resolve any issues quickly and fairly.
- Help file an insurance claim if necessary: If damage occurred during transport, we'll guide you through the insurance claims process and ensure you have all the documentation needed.
- Assist with legal claims if necessary: In rare cases where legal action is required, we'll help you understand your options and support you through the process.
Why This Works
We always heavily vet our truckers and usually have prior relationships with them before dispatching. As the oldest and best car shipping broker, we have never had a theft or a customer loss when these instructions were followed.
By following these steps, you'll always be covered. You'll have the documentation you need, you'll protect yourself from liability, and you'll have our full support if anything goes wrong.
